Survivorship bias is misschien de gevaarlijkste cognitieve fout. WO II-onderzoekers wilden vliegtuigen versterken op basis van waar ze de meeste kogelgaten kregen — Abraham Wald wees erop dat ze juist OMGEKEERD moesten denken: vliegtuigen die niet terugkwamen waren geraakt op de plekken die ze NIET zagen. Versterk de motoren, niet de vleugels.

Survivorship bias may be the most dangerous cognitive mistake. WWII researchers wanted to reinforce planes based on where they got the most bullet holes — Abraham Wald pointed out they should think the OPPOSITE: planes that didn't come back were hit in places they didn't see. Reinforce the engines, not the wings.
