RUIMTE GEWOON

On the solstice ("solstitium" — Latin for "sun standing still") the Sun stands at its most northerly (June) or southerly (December) point above the horizon. At the equator day and night are always 12 hours — no measurable solstice there. At the poles, by contrast, the Sun does not set or rise for 6 months.
