David Hume's is/ought-probleem (1739): je kunt geen morele "moet" afleiden uit feiten over wat IS. Voorbeeld: de natuur is wreed, daarom moet de mens wreed zijn — onlogisch. Hume liet zien dat ethiek niet uit wetenschap komt; de "naturalistische denkfout" werd 200 jaar later naar dit probleem genoemd.

David Hume's is/ought problem (1739): you cannot derive a moral "ought" from facts about what IS. Example: nature is cruel, therefore humans must be cruel — illogical. Hume showed that ethics does not come from science; the "naturalistic fallacy" was named after this problem 200 years later.
