The Loch Ness Monster ("Nessie") became world-famous in 1933 thanks to a supposed photograph — exposed in 1994 as a hoax (a toy submarine with a fake head). Yet research continues — the most recent DNA study of the lake water (2019) found no reptile DNA, but plenty of eel.
