De Minotaur (half mens, half stier) leefde volgens Griekse mythe in een labyrint onder Knossos op Kreta. Pasiphaë, de vrouw van koning Minos, droeg het kind na een vloek van Poseidon. Athene moest jaarlijks 14 jongelui sturen als voer. Theseus doodde het monster met behulp van de draad van Ariadne.

The Minotaur (half man, half bull) lived according to Greek myth in a labyrinth beneath Knossos on Crete. Pasiphaë, wife of King Minos, bore the child after a curse from Poseidon. Athens had to send 14 youths annually as food. Theseus killed the monster using Ariadne's thread.
