Question

Did you know? The history of female lesbian desire was so heavily censored for 2,000 years that even the term "lesbian" only appears in a medical textbook in 1870 for the first time. Only in 1928 did Radclyffe Hall write "The Well of Loneliness" — promptly banned in England until 1959.

Accepted Answer

The history of female lesbian desire was so heavily censored for 2,000 years that even the term "lesbian" only appears in a medical textbook in 1870 for the first time. Only in 1928 did Radclyffe Hall write "The Well of Loneliness" — promptly banned in England until 1959.

De geschiedenis van het lesbische verlangen bij vrouwen is voor 2.000 jaar zo zwaar gecensureerd dat zelfs de term "lesbisch" pas in 1870 in een medisch tekstboek voor het eerst opduikt. Pas in 1928 schreef Radclyffe Hall "The Well of Loneliness" — direct verboden in Engeland tot 1959.
