Zeno's paradox van Achilles en de schildpad (5e eeuw v.Chr.): geef de schildpad een voorsprong, en Achilles haalt hem nooit in — telkens als Achilles bij het oude punt aankomt, is de schildpad iets verder. De paradox werd pas in de 19e eeuw met de wiskunde van oneindige reeksen opgelost.

Zeno's paradox of Achilles and the tortoise (5th century BC): give the tortoise a head start and Achilles will never catch up — every time Achilles reaches its old point, the tortoise has moved a bit further. The paradox was only resolved in the 19th century with the maths of infinite series.
