Aristoteles ontwikkelde het tabula-rasa-concept eigenlijk eerder dan Locke (~350 v.Chr.): hij stelde dat de geest bij geboorte een "schoongemaakt schrijfbord" is. Hierin scheidde hij zich al van Plato's aangeboren-ideeën-leer.

Aristotle developed the tabula rasa concept actually before Locke (~350 BCE): he proposed the mind at birth is a "wiped writing board". This already separated him from Plato's innate-ideas doctrine.
